Now over 40 years old, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival is now one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe.
Attracting major international jazz names from all over the world as well as from the growing Scottish contemporary jazz scene, visitors are able to enjoy a wide range of styles, from 1920s traditional jazz to electronic blues.
This year’s programme includes over 130 concerts featuring top Scottish bands, international stars, festival favourites and rising stars. Making a much-welcome return are the likes of Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Blind Boy Paxton and Davina & the Vagabonds; newcomers taking to the stage include Xhosa Cole, Blue Lab Beats and Rosie Frater-Taylor.
Festival-goers will also be delighted to see the return of the epic Mardi Gras where various bands perform on multiple stages. Artists confirmed so far include After Hours, Brass Gumbo and Dopesick Flyand, with the full lineup announced at the start of July.
Not to be missed is the gloriously colourful Edinburgh Festival Carnival. Featuring over 800 carnival performers from across the world, the cavalcade of dancers, acrobatics, drummers and musicians weave their way from the Mound to the west end of Princes Street, before finishing with a spectacular concert of colour, spectacle and sounds in Princes Street Gardens. The Carnival programme will be released on Tuesday 21 June.
